NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A 15-year-old girl reported missing out of Arkansas died after Metro Police say she was shot at a park near Percy Priest Lake.

On Saturday, Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales reportedly met three people at Smith Springs Park.

Witnesses told Metro Police that as Gonzales was leaving, shots were fired at her. The teen was rushed to a local hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.

“You get used to hearing about it every day,” Barry Seidel reflected. “Who likes it, nobody likes it.”

Seidel lives in the area where the shooting took place and believes more security presence is needed.

“I rarely see any security,” he said.

Seidel said he saw one man’s car broken into after he had gone for the weekend.

Crime data shows there have been nearly 140 crimes reported to Metro Police in the last four months, within a mile of the park. Most reports involved assault and auto theft.

As for the latest incident, investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting. They are seeking to talk with the people who were at the park with Gonzales.

Anyone with information about the homicide is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
