MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reports that some debris from an old bridge fell onto Interstate 24 on Tuesday.

TDOT reports that an active bridge replacement is underway on the State Route 2/US 41 bridge over I-24 at Mile Marker 105 in Coffee County.

Some debris from the old bridge fell onto the interstate, which prompted rolling roadblocks to help crews remove the debris from I-24.

“Shoring was placed under the bridge to prevent any further debris from falling,” TDOT’s Rae Anne Bradley said. “Bridge is safe, no structural issues. Crews just finished so traffic should be clearing shortly.”

Bradley released this information on social media just after 4:15 p.m.

“Traffic has already been shifted to the new bridge so the old bridge isn’t even being used. No further lane closures happening on this project until after Thanksgiving holiday travel restrictions have lifted.”
