The shooting happened on Saturday night just after 11 in the 100 block of Second Avenue South.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Police arrested a convicted felon in connection to a shooting in Downtown Nashville that seriously injured a man and a woman, the Metro Nashville Police Department said.
According to police, the shooting happened on Saturday night at about 11:15 in the 100 block of Second Avenue South.
A 44-year-old woman reported that she was trying to leave a parking lot in her car with another man. When she attempted to go around a group of people, they began screaming and several women approached her and began hitting her through her window.
The man got out of the car and fired shots from his pistol into the air to stop the assault. The woman said she heard the return of gunfire and said she was struck in the shoulder. The man received several gunshot wounds.
The other alleged gunman attempted to drive away in a gray Infiniti with three female passengers.
Entertainment District Unit officers heard the gunfire and quickly responded. They rendered aid to the victims. Both were transported to the Vanderbilt Medical Center where they are both expected to recover.
Witnesses helped point out the suspect vehicle to the officers.
One of the officers got in front of the Infiniti and ordered the driver, 39-year-old Jeremi Ford to stop. However, Ford continued to drive toward the officer. The officer got out of the way before Ford finally pulled into a parking lot and he and his passengers were taken into custody.
Police identified Ford as the shooter. He refused to be interviewed.
Police said Ford has had prior felony drug convictions and is now charged with two counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault against a first responder, felon in possession of a gun and reckless endangerment.
Ford is being held on a $560,000 bond.
Police recovered the male passenger’s gun at the scene.
