Three-vehicle crash sends SUV into Murfreesboro apartment building

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - A crash involving three vehicles in Murfreesboro ended with one of the cars crashing into someone’s apartment on New Year’s Day.
Bill Gomez said he was just sitting at a red light in Murfreesboro when all of a sudden, a car was headed straight for him.
“I couldn’t believe it was happening,” Gomez said.
Gomez said he and his family were in an SUV at the intersection of Middle Tennessee Boulevard and Bradyville Pike when his vehicle was hit by two other vehicles.
He said the crash happened in just a matter of seconds.
“Everybody in my vehicle were all in shock,” Gomez said.
Gomez said it looked as if someone driving a white SUV ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle that ricocheted into his.
Murfreesboro firefighters said that the white SUV then crashed into Vanessa Cantù’s apartment building at the Chelsea Place Apartment homes, this happened at around 12:45pm.
Cantù said she and her boyfriend woke up just moments before the crash happened.
“It was just a bunch of like a dump truck that’s what it sounded like, but it wasn’t, it just got louder and then we actually felt the house shake,” Cantù said.
A Murfreesboro firefighter said the SUV crashed into the corner unit right below Cantù’s apartment, and she said her heart dropped thinking of her neighbor inside the unit, that’s until she saw him walk out.
“I asked him if he was in his room and he said like no, he said he was in the shower or in the restroom, away from his bedroom when the crash happened,” Cantù said.
Cantù said she watched emergency crews pull the car out, board up the hole and tow away at least two cars, before letting her back into her unit, grateful to hear no one lost their life.
When asked about how he felt during the crash, Gomez said he’s still shaken up.
“It almost was a slow-motion situation the way it occurred,” Gomez said.
Gomez said he was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with a shoulder injury that he is now recovering from.
