Paramedic who plead guilty to DUI fired after WSMV4 discovery
Mary Ellen Reed still had a license to work as a paramedic after pleading guilting to DUI. WSMV4 asked why.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Nashville paramedic just lost her job and it’s because of something WSMV4 uncovered.
Mary Ellen Reed pleaded guilty to DUI on Feb. 1 and as of March 8, she still had a license to work as a paramedic in Tennessee. WSMV4 reached to the Tennessee Department of Heatlh to ask why.
A spokesperson said: “All complaints against and investigations of licensed medical professionals in Tennessee are confidential, until a Health-Related Board files a formal charge against a license holder.”
So, WSMV4 called Reed’s employer “Life Care Ambulance,” which is a private company based out of Nashville. Its director of field operations for Nashville told WSMV4 the company was not aware of Reed’s DUI guilty plea.
Two hours after WSMV4′s original phone call, he called back saying Reed was no longer employed with “Life Care Ambulance.” That company is now required, by law, to report the DUI conviction to the state.
Reed’s attorney said he’s looking into the situation, but he doesn’t know enough right now to comment.
If Reed’s name sounds familiar, it’s because District Attorney Ray Couch says Reed is prosecutor’s main person of interest the death of her husband Jesse Reed.
Crews pulled the Nashville firefighter’s body out of the Tennessee River in Waverly in 2018.
