Homerun Derby to benefit Alzheimer’s Association in Nashville
MLB is bringing the event to the Music City.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) -Baseball and softball fans are excited about a unique event in Nashville.
Major League Baseball is bringing Homerun Derby X to the Music City.
Each team will be made up of a local hitter, a major league legend, and a female softball star.
The team that records the most home runs will get a cash prize that will be donated to a local non-profit.
There will also be a special section under the scoreboard where fans can catch balls.
Nashville native Tyler Marshburn will be one of the hitters and if his team wins, their money will go to the Alzheimer’s Association Tennessee Chapter, where his wife Kelley Marshburn works.
“I think it’s cool because a lot of people grew up watching Manny Ramirez and Andruw Jones hit, and play in the big leagues, and then they get to see them in the Nashville Sounds Stadium,” Marshburn said.
Although his wife is excited to watch him launch balls into the seats at First Horizon Park, she is hopeful the event will open some eyes and maybe fund some breakthrough research.
“This is a great way to bring family and friends out, grow awareness about the organization and the disease, and also fund some of the critical care and research that we do with the Alzheimer’s Association,” Kelley Marshburn said.
The family-friendly event will be at First Horizon Park on August 31 at 7 p.m.
A portion of the ticket sales will also go to the Alzheimer’s Association Tennessee Chapter.
Tickets to the event are available here.
