New homeless shelter to open in Maury County
Grace House will now house four families in need.
COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WSMV) - It took a lot of time and hard work, but now the Room in the Inn of Columbia will have its first open house for its brand-new homeless shelter.
Over the last eight years, the non-profit has helped more than a thousand Midstate families get back on their feet, but they’ve struggled to find a place to house those families while they’re in transition.
Originally, they were operating out of a church, but the fire department shut them down because of a code violation.
The non-profit then began putting people up in a local hotel, and all the while they’ve been raising money to open “Grace House,” a four-bedroom home with a communal kitchen designed specifically for families in need.

“I get a call, probably two to three calls a day, and emails on top of that from people saying, ‘I’m living in my car. I’ve been evicted. I’m working. I have a family. What can you do,‘” said Reverend Jeff Kane, the founder of Room in the Inn. Grace House is located at 1131 Mapleash Avenue in Columbia, Tennessee. The open house will be on December 18th from 3-6 p.m.
