Shooting leaves girl hospitalized in Napier area
MNPD officers reported the girl required surgery but was stable.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A 13-year-old girl is recovering after a shooting in the JC Napier area on Thursday evening.
According to the arrest affidavit, officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to a call for service at 161 University Court just after 7 p.m. on Thursday. They arrived to find a young girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower back and rendered aid until paramedics with the Nashville Fire Department arrived, the affidavit states.
She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and required immediate surgery, according to the affidavit.
Surveillance footage from the scene showed the suspected shooter to be 20-year-old Steven Harvey, the officers reported. MNPD reported that Harvey was involved in a fight with at least two other people when he pulled a gun and started firing, hitting the girl.
He was apprehended nearby at 220 Charles E. Davis Blvd. and was overheard admitting to a friend while sitting in the patrol car that he fired the shots, according to the report. Harvey again admitted to the shooting to officers but said he never intended to hit the girl, the report states.
He was booked overnight into Davidson County Jail and charged with attempted criminal homicide, unlawful gun possession, and firing a weapon with the intent to kill. He remains in custody on a $125,000 bond.
